Solutions to optimise your potential - A60 modular cabin

At Pier Solutions we pride ourselves in thinking outside the box (pun intended), as well as inside the box, around the box and carefully calculate every possible element of the box to ensure functionality, efficiency and also to ensure it’s aesthetically pleasing.

“Let your potential out of the box and stand out from the crowd...From standard workshops to A60 cabins we are the modern modular solutions partner.”

We love a new challenge, so when clients come to us looking for bespoke designs, we relish the opportunity to do something just that little bit different. Our latest brief was a client looking for Pier Solutions to assist in the specification and manufacture of a bespoke A60 rated control cabin for a local subsea engineering and systems expert. The unit houses a control and monitoring system for their specialist subsea intervention tooling, Pier Solutions included all installation, systems and integration to exacting offshore standards, alongside certification to DNV 2.7.2 and ABS. We also created a 20’ Safe Area workshop for the client.

After the initial design phase in Aberdeen, the construction of the A60 cabin began in Arbroath where the frame quickly took shape and it’s strong external structure was put in place.

Once the external structure was finalised and the cabin had it’s exoskeleton solidly in place, it was a quick hop up the A90 to Kintore for a paint job, before making its way to Torry in Aberdeen for full fabrication.

Fabrication is a complex process, involving many layers and many different individuals who need to be involved to complete the process. No mean feat in the current climate of social and physical distancing, lockdowns and shielding. Luckily we’ve got a fantastic team who found ways of making the continuation of the project possible by working shifts, hefty use of PPE and general good hygiene and common sense.

Step one was to ensure the cabin was insulated properly before installing the internal walls.

Windows and internal fittings came next and the modules really began to look fit for purpose.

Lastly but by no means least came the HVAC and electrics and the module just needed final inspection and testing before it was good to go.

Thus is the journey of a bespoke A60 Cabin, for use in the offshore energy sector, but we don’t limit ourselves by sector because where is the fun in that? We firmly believe that the answer to the question “Is there anything you can’t put in a box?” Is “no!”, and we believe that we’re up to the challenge of finding a solution that works for you. If you’ve got a tricky brief we’d love to speak to you to see how we can help.
